On Saturday 7 December 2024, we had twelve at our very first Neuro Kids Network event held at MacMillan’s Pottery in Richmond.

Our talented young people had the opportunity of painting a Christmas decoration each. It was a lovely, relaxed session that gave Mums the opportunity to chat as our young people worked on their creations.

Thank you to all those who attended and to MacMillan’s Pottery for hosting us.
Neuro Kids Network Decorating Workshop

On Wednesday 15 January 2025, we had a great visit to Pic’s Peanut Butter World attended by twenty-two people.

Tania, our tour guide did a wonderful job of showing everyone around and the families had lots of fun learning more about peanuts, peanut butter and Pic Picot’s journey to opening Pic’s Peanut Butter World.

It was a really busy event but perfect for a wet January day. Thank you to all the families who turned out and took part and to Tania and Pic’s Peanut Butter World for hosting us.

Visit to the SPCA
Unfortunately, our February visit to the SPCA which was exclusive to our group thanks to one of our lovely Mums working there, had to be postponed due to the SPCA being broken into the week before we were due to go.
We are really grateful to the SPCA for offering this opportunity to us and we look forward to perhaps visiting once they have had a chance to recover from such an unpleasant event.

Afternoon Tea at the Fairy Grove

On Sunday 2 March, we celebrated Children’s Day by visiting the Fairy Grove with 22 people taking part. The Nelson weather really turned on such a lovely sunny day for us and the children had great fun painting rocks; colouring in fairy and elf colouring pages and exploring the fairy houses on display. It was also an opportunity for families to have the chance to chat with one another. For the privacy of the families taking part who preferred for photos not to be taken, this was a ‘no photo’ event. Thank you to all those who came and to the fairies for hosting us.

Lego fun

On Monday 14 April, we had a fantastic time at our Lego event held at the Richmond Plunket rooms. Katie brought along a range of Lego from free play boxes that allowed our young people to explore this tactile equipment to Lego kits for those who were keen to take on a little more of a challenge. She also put up a zip line for our young people to explore Lego in motion. Thank you to Katie for offering this amazing Lego opportunity to our group and for all those who came to take part. A great time was had by all.

Fishing Expedition to Waimea Park Fishing Ponds
On Sunday 27 April, we headed out to the Waimea Park Fishing Ponds to take part in one of the Youth Fishing Trust’s Fish Out Days. After all the rain over Easter, we were really fortunate to have such lovely sunny weather and the fish were definitely hungry as each of our young people caught a fish while there to take home with them. In the words of one of our Mum’s whose two children caught a fish each,  “We loved our fishing trip.  Thank you so much for the effort you put into arranging these things for our little ones. It was such a great outing! I hope they will have us back again sometime.” Thank you to Ian and the team from the Youth Fishing Trust for hosting us and to those who joined in the fun on the day.
